OSRS: Beginner’s Guide To Builds (60)

OSRS gives players the freedom to customize their character. Aside from the looks and Skills, you can also create a variety of OSRS builds to help your character grow. The freedom to choose gear and the Skills you train will be completely up to you. However, you should at least follow a blueprint to ensure that your efforts in creating a build aren’t going to waste.

Some builds in OSRS are built for PvP, while others are built for PvM elements like Raids and boss battles. We’re going to take a look at some of the best builds in the game that you can use. Creating these builds will require a lot of time and effort but you’re getting optimized performance in return.

      What Are Builds For?

Builds allow you to create a character that’s built for specific tasks. For some players, builds help when it comes to creating challenging experiences in OSRS. Some create builds to dominate in certain aspects of the game.

The best thing is that some builds are best suited for certain playstyles. For instance, combat pures are excellent for those that to play aggressively. While those that want to take the game in stride are best when using main account builds.

There’s no such thing as the best build as each of these has its own pros and cons and we’ll be listing them below. Again, you’re free to create your own build as much as you want but the ones below will help you figure out at least the baseline of what you need to do.

      Main Account Build

This is the most basic build in OSRS simply because it’s the build with no restrictions. Players typically use this to enjoy the full game without any handicaps whatsoever. Accounts like this are best for newcomers considering that it’s a more open and versatile way to play OSRs.

      Pros

      • No restrictions whatsoever and lets you enjoy game to your heart’s content

      • Best for beginners that want to get the full OSRS experience first

      • Very easy to create as it’s essentially free-for-all in terms of building

      Cons

      • Builds like this are very balanced and they can’t always be used for specific tasks

Below are a few best in slot gear sets for main account builds. These are best in slot gear sets for the three attack types. In most cases, wearing gear sets that provide the most damage are best as it will allow you to kill enemies quicker.

      Pures

Pures are builds that are focused on raising only specific skills. Players create pures for a variety of purposes such as PvP, farming, and more. There are two types of pures.

      • Combat Pures - Builds where players improve some specific combat skills only.

      • Skill Pures - Accounts that focus on developing Skills not related to combat. These area mainly used for farming and money making. Since these aren’t combative builds, we won’t be diving deeper into them. Skill Pures are hard to use because the world becomes more dangerous to explore.

      Pros

      • Excellent for PvP and for specific raids and boss fights

      Cons

      • Hard to train

      • Not versatile

      Combat Pures (Attack)

      Skill Cap

      Note

      1 Attack

In order to maximize melee damage on low combat levels by focusing on Strength, combat pures with 1 Attack level give up their melee attack accuracy.

Using melee weapons with no attack requirements, accoutns with exceptionally low attack levels are referred to as obsidian maulers. When it comes to PvP, obsidian maulers typically have between 1 and 20 Attack, keeping their Combat level low enough to pose a direct threat to other 1 Defense pures. They include 3-tick weapons like the goblin paint cannon or swift blade, as well as slower but more potent weapons like the obsidian maul or warhammers like the dragon warhammer. Other speedier weapons include the Slayer’s staff, Bone dagger, and warhammer.

These builds can only train Ranged and Magic to level 67 without harming their combat level, even with 99 Strength.

In the free-to-play version of this build, knockout attacks are accomplished through the use of rune warhammers.

      7 Attack

While melee accuracy is improved substantially at the expense of about two combat levels, this build plays similarly to the 1 Attack pure. The ability to equip black d’hide chaps and blessed d’hide chaps rather than red d’hide chaps is unlocked by reaching level 7 Attack on obby builds, which enables them to train to a Ranged level of 71. Furthermore, it provides a +6 boost rather than a +5 boost from the super attack and super combat potions, therefore enhancing melee attack accuracy significantly.

      13/14/16 Attack

Since no significant weapon unlocks are available at such low Attack levels, these builds use equipment identical to the 1 Attack Obsidian mauler pure. They do, however, provide you a little more melee accuracy and the chance to complete some objectives and level up your Ranged level training. The following benefits are associated with notable builds in this Attack range:

      • For pures with 13 Defense that have completed the Nature Spirit quest, 13 Attack level may be feasible. After finishing the Fairytale I - Growing Pains quest, you will gain 2,000 Attack experience, bringing your Attack level to 13. Eventually, you will be able to access the fairy rings by completing the Fairytale II - Cure a Queen quest. Additionally, it enables the training of ranged weapons up to level 75 without affecting the combat level overall, opening the door to powerful ranged weapons like the toxic blowpipe.

      • Using a super attack or super combat potion at 14 Attack gives you a +7 boost, increasing the accuracy for that particular combat range.

      • The Death Plateau quest rewards experience that gives you exactly 16 Attack. Wearing climbing boots with a +2 strength bonus is made possible by this. Although they don’t have any accuracy or defense disadvantages, they are far less expensive than spiked manacles and have a weaker strength benefit. Without affecting the total combat level, this Attack level and 99 Strength allow for Ranged training up to level 77. Furthermore, you can use the Saturated Heart to increase your magic to 85+ at a minimum level of 74 Magic. This allows you to unleash higher corruption spells from the Arceuus spellbook, which have a 50% chance of corrupting the opponent and costing you 12 Prayer points over the course of 18 seconds. As an alternative, if you want to level up your defense to 45, you can reach 16 Attack by doing The Fremennik Trials quest and getting the berserker helm.

      20 Attack

Because there aren’t any noteworthy weapon unlocks at such a low level, this build plays similarly to the 1 Attack Obsidian mauler build. But with a +8 boost beginning at 20 Attack, it further improves melee attack accuracy and boosts the effectiveness of attack-boosting super potions. For strength-based builds, this is usually the cutoff Attack tier. These pures can wield high tier weapons like the toxic blowpipe and twisted bow, which lessen the difficulty of PvM challenges like obtaining the fire or infernal capes, since they have reached level 80 ranged. It’s important to note that the spiked manacles are superior to these pures even though they can complete the Death Plateau quest and obtain the climbing boots.

Another rather prevalent trait among free-to-play strength pures is 20 Attack. It does not grant access to any weapons that could surpass the rune warhammer in terms of performance, but it does greatly improve melee accuracy and enable further advancement in ranged training. These pures do have access to mithril weapons with 20 Attack, but rune warhammers are still much more potent in PvP, so their use is still restricted.

      40 Attack

Due to its ability to unlock rune weaponry, free-to-play games typically use Attack levels of 40.

While tier 40 weapons like the brine sabre are more potent on member worlds, they don’t have the significant strength increases or special attacks needed to create strong combos. Thus, aside from free-to-play worlds, 40 Attack level is hardly ever the objective.

      42 Attack

Wearing the Void Knight equipment, which provides balanced defense benefits and a noticeable damage increase in numerous combat types, requires level 42 Attack. In order to avoid gaining more hItpoints experience, pures that prefer to specialize in ranged attacks rather than melee may decide to stop at level 42 in Attack.

      50 Attack

Various kinds of pures employ the 50 Attack level since it may be used to unlock some very powerful weapons, such as the granite maul, granite hammer, and ancient staff. It is a typical Attack level for pure members that are low and mid level. The most popular starting Attack tier for combat pures without a specific Strength build is this one.

High combat level 40 Attack pures can also naturally advance to this attack tier. Attack can be trained to 49 levels with 99 Strength, 99 Ranged, or 99 Magic levels, all without affecting the combat level overall. This can be raised to 50 or 51 combat skills, depending on other abilities. The fact that there are no more item unlocks on the free-to-play worlds is the reason why a lot of free-to-play pures also decide to train this ability to 50 in order to get a noticeable melee accuracy boost without affecting the combat level overall. Except for pures designed for multicombat and clans, this is a typical last Attack level for maxed free-to-play pures.

      60 Attack

The 60 Attack level is one of the most popular levels in many pure builds since it can be used to unlock a wide range of weapons, such as the following:

      • Barrelchest anchor - A very effective knockout weapon with a significant strength bonus.

      • Dragon dagger - A cheap, poisonable weapon that delivers a powerful special attack at a low cost.

      • Dragon scimitar - A well-liked mainstay option due to its affordable cost and capacity to negate the opponent’s protection prayers.

      • Dragon 2h sword - A knockout weapon without the need for a quest.

      • Dragon spear - Frequently used by rushers and clans due to its unique ability to stun a player.

      • Dragon claws - A two-handed weapon that has one of the strongest in-game special attacks.

      65 Attack

Though it’s not frequently stopped, it still contains some noteworthy unlocks, since it grants access to the zombie axe, the leaf-bladed battleaxe, and the Sarachnis cudgel. Among all the one-handed melee weapons, the zombie axe has the biggest strength bonus.

      70 Attack

Not often stopped, but another tier that also yields several useful weapons. It opens up a variety of weapons for Barrows, including the Sadomin sword, the Ahrim’s staff, Dharok’s greataxe, and the ability to start using the abyssal whip, which will give experience in either Attack or Defense. Less often used weapons include the abyssal dagger and abyssal bludgeon.

      75 Attack

Many builds finish at the level 75b Attack since it unlocks strong high-tier weapons, making it a popular tier to stop. Among the noteworthy things are:

      • A number of godwords with distinctive special attacks, most notably the godsword Armadyl.

      • The dead staff and its numerous upgrades.

      • Abyssal tentacle, provided that having more Attack or Defense experience is not a problem.

      • The Elder maul, the game’s most powerful and precise two-handed weapon.

      82 Attack

An attack tier that leans somewhat toward PvM and gives you access to the best melee weapons available, like the Inquisitor's mace, the Ghrazi rapier, the Scythe of vitur, the Blade of Saeldor, and Osmumten's fang. Due to their high cost and lack of any noteworthy special attacks, these weapons are not frequently used in PvP although they do enable the highest melee DPS rates.

      99 Attack

Only its improved melee precision makes this desirable, especially for pures designed for clan activity.

      Combat Pures (Defense)

      Skill Cap

      Note

      1 Defense

Low combat level pures typically have this Defense level, which maximizes damage output and knockout potential. These pures are weak but deadly, capable of defeating other kinds of accounts with a comparable fighting level. They compromise most of the PKers in the lower combat level divisions.

      13 Defense

These pures have access to the Ardougne cloak 2 and the adamant gloves, which have greater bonuses to the combat bracelet, because they have completed the Nature Spirit quest. In addition, they have access to the level 10-unlocked slayer helmet, Xerician robes, black defender, hard leather body, and white armor.

      20 Defense

At level 20 Defense, you can use the Falador shield 2, the Mithril Defender, the Initiate armor, and the Mystic Robes. This defense level permits the use of mithril armor, a studded body, and white decorative boots on free-to-play worlds. Still, the so-called mithril pures remain a fairly specialized build because their unlocks are not that big.

      30 Defense

Wearing pricey but effective armor like the Inquisitor’s armor, the 3rd Age mage robes, Masori, proselyte armor, snakeskin armor, and adamant defender is permitted with a defense level of 30. The infinity robes and frog-leather armor, which are unlocked at level 25, are also available to these pures.

Due to its crush accuracy and melee strength improvements, as well as the set effect that further increases the accuracy and damage of the crush attacks, the Inquisitor’s armor in particular is a significant unlock for pures that employ melee attacks. You are encouraged to use it only when unskulled to minimize the chance of losing it in the event of death due to its high cost. Nonetheless, this combination works well with knockout weapons like the dragon warhammer and obsidian maul that don’t require an attack.

Wearing adamant armor and the gold decorative boots with a slight strength bonus are permitted on free-to-play worlds at this Defense level. 30 Defense is the lowest level that allows to achieve the highest free-to-play maximum hits with all combat styles, including melee, given the appropriate Strength, Ranged, Magic, and Prayer levels, making the so-called adamant pures a noteworthy choice. These boots are required to maximize damage with certain rune weapons, such as the rune scimitar or rune warhammer.

      40 Defense

Numerous important unlocks are available at the 40 Defense level, such as the Vengeance spell and the Blessed Dragonhide armor, Fighter torso, Rune Defender, or Dagon'hai robes. To get the extra unlocks, many pures opt to train Defense all the way to level 45.

However, among the free-to-play combat pures, level 40 Defense is highly prevalent since it grants access to the greatest weapons for melee and ranged combat, respectively—rune armor and green d’hide body. Rune pures are great in multicombat, the deep wilderness, and organized 1-vs-1 battle since they have large defensive bonuses. It is important to remember that the Dragon Slayer I quest should only be completed at 34 Defense level to prevent receiving further Defense levels from the experience it offers.

      42 Defense

It is well-liked by void pures because it is possible to earn the Barrows gloves and Void knight equipment at level 42 Defense.

      45 Defense

Wearing the spirit shield with a Prayer level of 55 and the berserker helm is permitted with a 45 Defense level. Because of their ability to obtain equipment strength bonuses just marginally lower than those of maxed accounts, so-called berserker pures are a viable option in the mid-combat level brackets.

      50 Defense

The "Moons of Peril" armour set can be worn by those with a 50 defense level. Together with "moon" armour sets, this level permits the use of the Dwarven helmet and Granite armour, which makes it an excellent range tanking set.

      60 Defense

At Defense level 60, you can unlock the malediction ward, obsidian armor, odium ward, and dragon armor in addition to the dragon defender. For obsidian maulers who prioritize training Strength over Attack, this is a significant level because of the unlockable obsidian armor, which increases the accuracy and damage of obsidian weapons.

      70 Defense

Wearing the majority of high-tier armor, such as the ancestral robes and Bandos armor that were unlocked at level 65, is possible with a defense level of 70. These items include Barrows equipment, Armadyl armor, avernic defender, blessed spirit shield, crystal shield, and crystal armour. Using potent skill-boosting prayers like Augury, Piety, and Rigor is also permitted, provided that the necessary prayer levels are met.

      75 Defense

Attaining a level 75 Defense allows you to access superior defensive equipment, such as a twisted buckler, sigil spirit shields, serpentine helm, dragonfire shield, and dragonfire ward.

Pures with low battle level defense, equipped wit the dragonfire attack of the dragonfire shield and access to poison through a poisoned bone dagger, are a noteworthy PvP build. Despite being hard to train, they have surprising damage potential considering their lack of offensive skills, and their defensive prowess makes them quite hard to destroy.

      80 Defense

Maxing out the melee strength benefit is possible with the Torva armor and fierce gloves, which are unlocked at 80 defense levels.

      99 Defense

99 Defense is usually restricted to main accounts, but it can also be a target for defense pures or other tanks whose other combat abilities are capped to lower their combat level.

      Combat Pures (Prayer)

      Skill Cap

      Note

      1 Prayer

Due to quest experience from Priest in Peril and The Restless Ghost, low-level pures that do not carry costly +1 items typically attempt to keep their Prayer level as low as possible. While this has the advantage of keeping combat level extremely low, it also deprives these accounts of useful benefits like Ava's accumulator and Ancient Magic.

      13 Prayer

This is the lowest Prayer level an account can have and yet be able to access the Ancient Magic by not completing the restless ghost.

The Superhuman Strength prayer, which can greatly boost the maximum melee hits at the expense of a minor fighting level increase, is unlocked at Prayer Level 13.

      15 Prayer

This is the lowest Prayer level at which an account can remain eligible to use Ava's accumulator and Ancient Magic. A PKer can spend less ammunition and gain a ranged boost with the Accumulator; this is useful when utilizing more expensive weapons, such as dragon knives. With Ice Blitz combinations, Ancient Magic not only enables low and mid level pures to rush or PJ fights, but it is also incredibly helpful for mid and deep Wilderness PKing.

      25/26 Prayer

Pures can participate in risky activities with a pricey +1 item without losing it on death (unless Smited) if Protect Item is unlocked at level 25. Due to the lack of significant skill improvements, it is not usually stopped at, but it is an option for low-combat level accounts that depend on particular items they would rather not take a chance on. Hawk Eye is a Ranged enhancing prayer that can be unlocked by raising the Prayer level to 26.

      31 Prayer

Prayer at level 31 unlocks the 15% Strength boost Ultimate Strength, the Unlock Item prayer at level 25, and the Hawk Eye prayer at level 26. The majority of pures who opt for Protect Item typically choose to forego 25 Prayer in favor of 31; the marginal battle level gain is worthwhile given the significant Strength bonus that Ultimate Strength offers. To maximize melee hits for one-defense pures and other accounts below 65 Defense level, this prayer is required.

      43/44/45 Prayer

Access to Protect from Melee, the is available at prayer level 43. For any PKer, protection prayers are incredibly helpful; they shield against rushers and PJers, greatly simplify the Fight Caves, facilitate one-defense pures’ tanking, and extend the time PKers can survive in the Deep Wilderness. Most pures, however, decide to stop at 44 or 45 instead—the extra combat level is insignificant and grants access to Mystic Might and Eagle Eye, which are 15% level boosters for Ranged and Magic, respectively. For accounts with less than 70 Defense level, these are the best boosts available.

      52 Prayer

For pures with low defense, this is typically the last point of stopping. Access to Smite, a prayer that eliminates your opponent’s ability to protect their item and compels them to drop their +1 item in the event of their death, is made possible by reaching level 52 Prayer. Though it should be noted that pures typically lack the offensive power to employ Smite successfully until the 75-80 combat bracket, this prayer is quite helpful when the opponent has a lower Prayer level. Because of this, the combat level sacrifice needed to achieve it over low Prayer level pures makes it uncommon in low and mid-level PKing. Moreover, level 50 Prayer is needed to gain the Barrelchest anchor, a well-liked combination weapon with 60 Attack pures.

      55 Prayer

In addition to all the advantages of the 52 Prayer level, berserker pures who engage in no honor or tribrid combat frequently decide to obtain the 55 Prayer level in order to gain access to the normal spirit shield.

      70/74/77 Prayer

The finest prayers that increase Melee, Ranged, and Magic skills in addition to Defense are those that offer access to Piety, Rigour, and Augury, respectively, at these prayer levels. However, only late mid and high-combat level brackets see these prayers because they all require 70 Defence.

      Obby Builds

Obbies are some of the most complex builds in the game. What makes this build special is that majority of your combat stats other than Strength are going to be 1 or at the very least, very low. The best obby builds have 99 Strength, 1 Attack, 1 Range, 1 Magic, and 50 Defence.

The goal of builds like this is to ensure that your combat level is as low as possible while giving you insane damage. The name derives from the obsidian mauler, commonly used as the weapon for this build.

Since you’ll have 99 Strength and a low combat level, you’re likely going to be facing off against players who don’t have enough Defence or HP to take more than a few hits from you. A lot of players use this for PvP but it’s also been used for PvM as well.

What makes this build hard to create is the training itself. Raising your Strength to 99 without improving other combat skills can be difficult. There are a lot of guides that show you how to make obbies. The build itself is relatively easy to do but the journey to get there is very difficult.

      Pros

      • Powerful build that’s great for PvP and PvM

      • Can one hit some enemies on PvP
