Anti Recommendations (15 new)

I did not care for . I am a stickler for consistency, and this book did not have enough follow-through for me. In the beginning, the MC lists her many abilities, but never mentions them again in the whole novel.
For instance, she mentions at one point that she sees ghosts everywhere, but never mentions it again. I'd think if you saw ghosts everywhere you went, it would be a pretty big deal!

Been meaning to read these, though a bit burned out on dystopian. The movie looks sexy, might have to see it.

I still have watched it, but it has gone so far from the books it's nothing alike save some characters. Personalities, etc, everything else is completely different so I just pretend it's not based on the books. However, season 5 bored me so much I stopped watching.

How do you feel about kindle self publishing? (16 new)

Jan 15, 2014 03:58AM

I read on an agent's blog one time that publishing is like playing the lottery. Sometimes, you hit the jackpot. Usually, you don't. I think it's the same with self publishing, only a lot more people play and a lot less hit the jackpot.

For example, there were lots of vampire books when Twilight came out. It's not the most well-written book out there, but no one cared. It hit the popularity jackpot through some magical combination we'll never understand. The planets aligned at that exact moment for it to catch on and grow wildly popular. Fifty Shades is the same way. There are loads of erotica titles out there. That one caught on for whatever reasons. James won the self-pub lotto.

I think self publishing is fine. I have done it. I recommend it to people. But I don't think anyone should expect to get rich off it. But for those who do, bravo!

The Book Thief--I didn't like the book because of the author's tone, but I thought the movie was good.

I'm still upset about Edward from Twilight. They kept the story line, but the actor they chose was so SO far from the way I pictured him that it all became a big joke to go see the movies.

People kept shushing me because I couldn't stop laughing every time he took his shirt off. After seeing Jacob shirtless it was just sad.

July BOM Evermore (The Immortals, #1) by Alyson Noel (33 new)

I'm reading the first book. I'm almost done. It lost all momentum for me in the middle when it got bogged down with romance. Now it's a little better towards the end.

I can deal with spoilers sometimes, but def. should not give away the ending to the first or second book! Just my opinion...

Whoa, can a mod put some spoiler alerts in that post ^^^.
It just ruined the entire series for me!

I'm late on this one, only about 1/5 of the way through. I really thought i'd hate it and give up right at the start, but it's not too bad. I guess my expectations were so low it could only impress! Some parts are annoying--how many times does she have to say how little she cares about her impossible beauty?--but the parts about Damen are...well, hilarious. I know they're supposed to be hot or whatever, but it's so over-the-top it makes me die laughing. I love books that make me laugh, even if it is unintentional!

Okay, I wasn't sure if i had to use spoiler tags since this is a BOM discussion thread. most of my groups allow spoilers in BOM's only. Thanks for the heads up.

So, is this where we post discussions as we read or is it a spoiler-free zone?
I got the book and I'm ready to read, but I like to discuss as I go.

Do Darren Shan and Eoin Colfer write books for adults? (3 new)

Jul 14, 2011 02:08AM

I don't know about anyone else, but I think Stephen King is probably the king of horror.

Darren Shan writes books for adults, I can't think of the title. I don't know about Colfer.

The cover is cool, but after reading some of the reviews, I'm not sure I'll read this one. I dont like giving bad reviews and it seems like the things ppl didnt like about the book are things that would ruin it for me. Maybe next time!

Authors Unite!!! (405 new)

Dennis,
Thanks! I just added your book to my to-read list. I love books about creepy kids, lol...yours sounds like it could be made into a great scary movie!

And thanks for talking about my book! Smashwords has a sample, so does Kindle, if you want to peek at it. It should be out in paperback by the end of this week if Amazon is as fast as they have been in the past.

Thanks again!
