Baldur's Gate 3 is finally getting mod support in September | Digital Trends (1)

Baldur’s Gate 3 will finally get officialmodding support this September when Larian Studios releases Patch 7.

The developer confirmed this news in its latest community update on the Steam page for Baldur’s Gate 3. Although this patch is a few months out, Larian announced it early because it wants to beta test what it’s calling the “Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit” prior to a wide release. It’s inviting popular modders to test out the toolkit this month and will hold a bigger closed beta that supports 1,000 players in July.

An FAQ in the post reveals even more details about what the mods will entail. Larian is using Mod.io as the platform for its toolkit, meaning players will eventually be able to download mods on PC and console. The studio encourages modders to make new weapons, armor, classes, subclasses, spells, and dice skins for the game, although it admits that cross-platform support won’t be possible for mods that try to direct edit levels, cinematics, dialogue, or quests. Thankfully, Larian says it will continue to allow mods not made with this official toolkit, as well as mods that break those rules to be published on other modding platforms.

Ultimately, Larian says it is making an official Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit for modders to “improve compatibility and give us the opportunity to ensure they’ll work wherever you’re playing Baldur’s Gate 3″ for mods. Larian reiterated that more updates are on the way for the Dungeons & Dragons RPG as well, including a photo mode and cross-play.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available now for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Official mod support will be enabled for Windows players first via Patch 7 this September before coming to Mac, PlayStation, and Xbox.

Where to find Benryn and Mirileth’s dowry in Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur's Gate 3 is finally getting mod support in September | Digital Trends (3)

Fetch quests are quite played out in RPGs, but Baldur's Gate 3 manages to put a unique spin on the tired old formula in the "Rescue the Trapped Man" quest. Starting the quest is easy enough, but the goal of finding the lost dowry itself can feel as daunting as finding a needle in a haystack. There are several ways you can go about getting clues to help you find the missing valuables, however, not all of them will be obvious or available to your character depending on their class and abilities. To finally put this mystery to bed and recover the lost treasure for a troubled man -- or keep it for yourself -- here's where to find Mirileth's Dowry in Baldur's Gate 3.
How to find Benryn and Mirileth's dowry

This quest begins by finding the man named Benryn in Waukeen's Rest, which is notably ablaze when you arrive. He is inside the house closest to the fast travel point, and trapped under a large wooden log. Pass either an Intelligence or Strength check to lead him out of the fire and save his life. Even though you saved him, Benryn will have another favor to ask you, which is to locate his wife, Mirileth. The two had an argument about the dowry and he doesn't know where it is. Unfortunately, finding Mirileth won't help much as she has passed away, so you now have to find the dowry yourself.

Will there be DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3?

Baldur's Gate 3 is finally getting mod support in September | Digital Trends (4)

Having come out on both PC and PlayStation, with Xbox said to arrive in the near future, adventurers have already dumped hundreds of hours in Baldur’s Gate 3. This unexpected hit for the CRPG genre is as deep as it is long, and yet some have already managed to plow through all three of the game's acts. Despite there being tons of ways to experiment and replay using all the different Races and Classes, people are already getting hungry for more. In the modern age, DLC for massive hits like Baldur’s Gate 3 is almost a sure thing, and yet this game is by no means normal. From its long early access period to the sheer amount of dynamic and reactive ways to interact with the world, this is a very unique product. That has left many to question whether or not there will ever be any DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3.
Is Baldur's Gate 3 getting DLC?

At the time of writing, there are no concrete plans for DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3, but that doesn't mean it isn't in the cards. The latest update Larian has given on any potential future expansions came from an IGN interview with Product Manager Tom Butler during Gamescom 2023. He stated "We'll carry on patching for a while and then we're all going to take a holiday and then we'll figure out what we do next. But at the moment, we genuinely have discussions. We want to do more. We don't know what yet." No doubt the team deserves a break after the years of work put into Baldur’s Gate 3, and while fans will be somewhat disappointed to know nothing beyond fixes and updates are in the works as of now, you can at least know that it is being talked about.

How to change your appearance in Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur's Gate 3 is finally getting mod support in September | Digital Trends (5)

Making your character can take a long time if you really want to get all the details right. From your race, class, hairstyle, and more, you have a lot of options to tweak before ever starting your adventure. If you're a little too excited, you might end up slacking off on making your character and assuming you can update it later just so you can get right into the action. If so, or you simply want to change up your look after a couple of hours into this massive game, you'll be at a loss as to how, if you even can, change your appearance in Baldur's Gate 3. You may not fully like the answer, but here's the best you can do in terms of altering your appearance after you've exited the character creator.
Can you change your appearance in Baldur's Gate 3?

The answer to this is technically yes, but not in the way you would hope. To get it out of the way, no, there's no way to return to the character creation screen after you've finalized your character. Unlike respeccing your character, there's no NPC, item, or magic mirror anywhere in The Forgotten Realms that will let you change your appearance.
